With a vision to provide clients with a more personal service, Michael R. Acker launched the Acker Law Group, LLC to build on his more than 18 years as a successful insurance defense and personal injury attorney. His goal is to help alleviate any stress that often accompanies litigation. Mike is a litigator who prides himself on integrity, character, and a genuine concern for his clients’ well-being.
After initially developing a successful insurance defense practice at his previous firm, Mike expanded his area of practice to include Plaintiff’s personal injury matters. Mike handles both sides of auto accident, dog bite, slip and fall, and other personal injury litigation, giving him the ability to prepare his case with the firsthand knowledge of how his opponent is likely analyzing the other side.
Mike obtained his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology in 1993 from the University of Maryland. He prides himself as a “Triple Terp” going on to receive his Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1997 and completing Masters degree coursework in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland College Park.
Upon receipt of his JD, Mike was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar and served as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia from 1997-1999. He subsequently obtained admission to the Maryland bar. He has also successfully been admitted to the bar for the District of Columbia and West Virginia, and is presently an active member of the bar of each of these four jurisdictions.
Mike joined a Prince George’s County law firm in June 2000 and made partner in 2008. He was responsible for building his insurance defense practice representing one of the major auto insurance carriers and its members. While at this firm, Mike litigated countless successful Plaintiff’s personal injury cases. His approach to his Plaintiff’s cases has been informed by almost two decades of experience representing both sides of life-altering events.
Outside the office, Mike is happily married to his wife, Maria, and has two sons, Zack and Jackson. He enjoys distance running and mud/adventure runs- having completed numerous half-marathons, multiple full marathons and ultra-marathons and CrossFit.
